Sheraton Park is a student accommodation scheme in Durham which involved the extension and refurbishment of an existing building, the demolition of an existing building and provision of a new build. The site is within an established landscape setting with key mature trees to be retained on the site.
Fairhurst acted as lead consultant throughout the pre-application process working closely with the Planning Case Officer and other officials at Durham County Council whilst continually liaising with the appointed PR Consultants managing community consultation events. This stage was vitally important as the site is sensitive in its location and has an established surrounding residential population who were very interested in the proposals.
Fairhurst’s Structural Engineers produced an Optioneering Report to assess the options available to the client in adapting the buildings on site to accommodate the necessary number of student units and achieve a feasible scheme. Working closely with the architects, Fairhurst’s Landscape Architects looked to respect the character of the site whilst providing an environment which appropriately accommodates the range of users and provides environmental benefits for all residents, existing and new.
