Roads and Bridges

Fairhurst holds a successful history and tradition in the design of transport infrastructure projects, from major river crossings to strategic roads including works to the Forth and Tay Road Bridges, delivering multi-disciplinary services to maintain these key crossing points. We have delivered design, check and compliance monitoring services on a range of projects across the UK. Projects include but not limited to:

We work with Transport Scotland, the National Highways and local authorities to deliver their aspirations and strategies; enabling the enhancement of the strategic road network. With national and international contractors, we partner in Design & Build contracts to create new and striking infrastructure.

We have considerable experience working as part of design joint ventures to deliver large scale projects and have established strategic partnerships to deliver additional resources through supply chain relationships. We also deliver bespoke design services supporting private sector clients to achieve their development aspirations. These include infrastructure for education campuses, industrial and technology parks, historic bridge refurbishments and local road improvements enabling access for new retail or residential development.

Fairhurst has a proven track record of supporting projects within the rail industry. This includes offering design advisory services for some of the UK’s most unique and noteworthy projects.

Our services go beyond just developing and managing infrastructure; we actively participate in our clients’ wider business activities, placing particular emphasis on enhancing asset longevity and fortifying resilience in response to climate change challenges.

We work with a wide range of clients including contractors, public bodies, and asset owners to deliver a wide range of rail-related projects.

Our operations encompass a diverse array of projects, catering to a variety of clients across several sectors. These sectors include stations, bridges and culverts, depots, tunnels, and coastal defenses. Within each of these areas, we bring our expertise and commitment to delivering successful outcomes for our clients.

We also offer specialist services as follows:

  • RISQS Certification
  • CRE / CEM Qualified staff (in accordance with NR/L2/RSE/02009) in rail-related disciplines – civils, geotechnical, drainage
  • IRATA Qualified Rope Access personnel for structural investigation and assessment work
  • LDO (Lead Design Organisation)
  • Temporary works design, including propping systems, crash decks and piling platform checks
  • Design of Thames Water sewer mitigation on the HS2 route, including alterations to sewer access and sewer lining designs
